Our Martial Arts Lineage: The Strength of Sanuces Ryu

Doctor Moses Powell
Founder of Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu
Soke Lil’ John Davis
Founder of Kumite Ryu Jujitsu, a descended from the eclectic jujitsu lineage of Vee Jitsu and Sanucus Ryu Jujitsu, which combines principles from both.
Resolution Street Survival’s training is deeply rooted in Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu, a no-nonsense combat system created by Dr. Moses Powell ; One of the first African American martial artists to demonstrate at the White House, He developed Sanuces Ryu, a combat-effective, urban survival martial arts system. This system was designed for practical, real-world combat applications, incorporating both hand-to-hand self-defense and the use of everyday objects as defensive tools.

He has trained elite military, law enforcement, and FBI agents in real-world defensive methods. A select group of high-ranking students trained under Powell’s direct supervision, continued evolving and adapting Sanuces Ryu while maintaining its original effectiveness, and passed down knowledge through real-world application-based training, not just theoretical instruction.
The lineage of Resolution Street Survival follows a three-tiered structure, ensuring that the system maintains its integrity and effectiveness. Hence the combative triology of this style is known as VSK, which makes use of both “hard” and “soft” techniques. Its movements flow smoothly, combining power, simplicity, and grace. The system is characterized by its practical applicability to the street through a systematic approach to blocks, strikes, holds, grapples, locks, throws, falls, and kicks, and by its “follow-through” style.

We Walk in Peace. We Only Fight with Those Who Fight with Us.
Self-defense is not about aggression; it’s about survival, awareness, and building confidence. It’s about understanding your environment and recognizing potential threats before they escalate. The goal is to protect yourself and others while minimizing harm, not to initiate violence. Training in self-defense empowers you to respond with clarity and control in high-pressure situations, fostering confidence in your ability to handle adversity. True self-defense is about maintaining a calm mindset, knowing when to avoid conflict, and when to assertively defend yourself if necessary. It's a tool for safety, not a means to provoke or escalate danger.
